![]() Thanks, now i remember, i just found the peice of paper and read it and forgot is on top of the 12 initial. your timing light should enable you to set an rpm and see exactly what the advance is, so you can ramp it up to 6000 and see if you have 32 but beware spinning fan blades and rotating mass (flywheels) which might decide its a good time to fly off (its hapenned). Logged If you cant fix it with a hammer its not broken muzzy01. I got spoiled using this type of light from working on older ignition systems when it was hard enough to read the TDC mark let alone the DEG marks on the harmonic balancer. Snap-on Tach Advance Timing Light Mt1261a. Has anyone got a user manual for a snap on MT1261A timing light they dont need or could scan and email to me. With this type of Timing light you ignore all other marks and just use TDC mark or the OT mark on the airhead. Your centrifugal advance kicks off at 1200 so you wont see 12 at 1500 (but should at 1100) at 3000 it should be 22 (initial plus 10 ) at 6000 should be 32 total. Hope im reading this right, 12 initial is your idle speed setting (initial advance) Ive never owned a advance timming light, in the past ive just set the dizzy with no.1plug out and set it on the road so maybe i sound a bit dumb here but my specs from the distrubtor say. I then put the timing back to use table and strobed it again and dialed the timing light advance untill I had 0 on the crank and the amount I had to advance the light was 156* to get to 0.FCCOOL wrote:ok, looking at the buttons i think i see how it works. I presently have 0 in the spark latency box on my MSQ. The timing light Im using is a snap on MT1261 which is quite old but Im very sure its not wasted spark or 2 stroke compatible. as Im raising the RPMs or just kindof reavving up and down the timing retard quite a bit. Then I revved the engine to check for any spark latency and with the RPMs held at several differant RPMS it was jumpy but if I held the RPMS steady it was roughly 0 with it moving around between -5 and +5.at idle its dead steady on 0. I recently repaired a Snap-On MT2261 timing light with an intermittent flash problem. This put the engine at 0 with the timing light. I set fixed timing value to 0* and set the MSQ to fixed timing and strobed it and found that I was 5 degrees advanced, so I entered 5 degrees in the trigger offset box and burned it. I made a timing pointer and found true top dead center and applied timing tape to the balance. SNAP ON MT1261A TACH TIMING ADVANCE LIGHT Condition: Used. On any vehicle Ive always used the 1261a cuz it tells me the rpm and advance numbers on the back of the light. Snap-on Timing Light Model MT-1261A: Auction Closed High Bidder: b3 Sold Amount. Up to now I have not had a reliable set of timing marks on the engine to verify base trigger offset so I left the offset at 0 for the time being. I went to check the timing, then I remembered reading the directions for the msd box, it says NOT to use digital timing lights. C3 General - Timing lights w/tach - Does anyone have a SnapOn Timing light model MT1261A or MT2261A I need to know what the difference is between these 2. Engine is an LS1 run on a diypnp with wasted spark running crank sensor only with the LS1 wheel decoder and just the crank wheel and sensor.no cam sensor.
